Ukrainian holiday legend tells of a woman too poor to hang presents on her tree for her children, crying herself to sleep on Christmas Eve watching a spider spin cobwebs around its empty spaces. She woke to discover that morning's first rays had transmuted that webbing into beautiful silver and gold - the first tinsel on a tree.
Hence, the tradition that says finding a spider on your Christmas tree is a sign of good luck, and good fortune coming your way.
I hope each and every one of you finds the biggest, hairiest, spinningest spider of their lives on your tree this year. Go ahead, close your eyes, stick your arm in among the branches right up to the elbow. Heh.
Enjoy the holiday, folks.
